United States (US) appointed its ambassador, Thomas Barrack, as Special Envoy to Syria on Friday.
Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump called on Syria’s interim President, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, to rejoin the Abraham Accords, normalize relations with Israel, and expel "Palestinian terrorists."
Trump met with President Al-Sharaa in Riyadh, urging him to pursue normalization with Israel following his announcement to lift sanctions on Damascus.
The meeting, initially described by Washington as brief and informal, lasted about thirty minutes and was attended virtually by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
