The third G20 Sherpa Meeting, held in Sun City, South Africa, convened high-level delegates from member states, invited nations, and international organizations to strengthen multilateral cooperation and address shared global challenges, according to TV BRICS.

Opening the forum, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, highlighted the country's rich reserves of critical minerals, underscoring their significance in powering the global energy transition and digital economy.

He called on the G20 to use its platform to drive inclusive development and sustainable progress, reaffirming South Africa’s commitment as G20 president.

The meeting placed special emphasis on the Global South, with Russia’s G20 Sherpa, Svetlana Lukash, describing South Africa’s presidency as a historic milestone. She noted that Russia’s priorities, including inclusive growth, job creation, AI governance, and equitable valuation of critical minerals, align closely with South Africa’s.

The UAE also played a prominent role, with Ambassador Mahash Saeed Al Hameli leading its delegation. The UAE reaffirmed its support for South Africa’s G20 agenda and its engagement in working groups spanning climate action, education, AI, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development.

South Africa has formally invited the UAE as a guest country for the 2025 G20 process, marking its fourth consecutive invitation and sixth overall participation, reflecting growing ties and shared priorities between the two nations.
